Building a team is just like assembling a Lego set. Without the right pieces, you won’t have a solid structure, and if everyone does their own thing without a plan, you will end up with something that looks more like modern art than a functional design.
As a mental coach, I work with young players on their team skills. And trust me, talent is great, but without team spirit, its just a box of loose bricks.
Together, we explore how each player contributes their unique piece to the bigger picture. The striker? Thats the flashy red brick that stands out immediately. The defensive midfielder? A solid foundation block that holds everything together. And the goalkeeper? That one crucial piece that, if missing, makes the entire structure collapse.
One of the biggest challenges I see in teams is that players don’t always realize how essential their role is. Everyone wants to be special edition golden brick, but without the â regular blue ones, the whole thing falls apart. Thats why team spirit is about understanding that you need each other.
With the teams I work with, I use playful yet strategic methods to strengthen collaboration. These range from mental exercises to scenarios where players literally step into each other shoes. Sometimes, we even build with actual Lego bricks to visualize how a team functions. (Spoiler alert: without a solid foundation, your tower won’t last long.)
So, do you want to get the most out of your team experience? Make sure youre not just adding your piece but also understanding how the whole structure comes together. Success is built together and yes, sometimes you need to take a step back and rebuild.
